The Long Weekend Is.. Actually Over!
We hope you enjoyed our run of this hilarious, fast-paced and twisting tale of two couples at a top-notch cottage. Director Robert Calvert did an excellent job creating tension and humour with this cast who wove life into each of their characters with the utmost sincerity.
Our next peice is "Wait Until Dark", coming in April 2010!
Youth Group Picks Its Show for 2010
Get ready for "The WIZ" ! Adapted from "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum, the book by William F. Brown, Music & Lyrics by Charlie Smalls.
It begins on a tumbledown farm in Kansas, but the tornado sets Dorothy and Toto down in a bit-city-like Oz. The words are jive, the songs upbeat. After celebrating the demise of the Wicked Witch of the East with the Munchkins, Dorothy departs for the Emerald City with a live yellow brick road. She encounters a hip Scarecrow who wants to join her because he has a feelng he isn't going anywhere; an uptight Tin Man who needs Dorothy's help to hang loose again, and a mama's-boy Lion who has lost faith in the psychiatric help he's been getting from an owl. Together they will seek help from the Great Man in the flashy city.

CALLING ALL DIRECTORS!!
Anyone interested in directing one of our plays for next season is asked to email our Vice President Mike Trites. Our fall play will be "SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED" by Eugene Stickland. This piece requires a director who can control the sensitivities of both comedy and drama. The play goes up in November of 2010. Once the calendar turns to February 2011, we have "SUDS" a spectacular soap opera that takes place in a Laundromat. This musical features many of the top ten 1960s songs and has been a smash success in many southern Ontario community theatres. Finally, in April 2011, the Ken Ludwig comedy "LEADING LADIES" will open. A complex set and some elements of farce will make this piece a directing challenge.
We can hardly wait to hear from potential directors. We know you're out there. Just drop Mike a line at vicepresident@whitbytheatre.org. Mike will field all questions you may have about time, date, resources and commitment. The interviews for these three directorial positions will take place in early May. Don't delay!
