Roles:

We’re searching for 3 males (1 age 50-65) and (2 age 25-40) and 2 females (1 age 50-65) and (1 age 25-40).

Dad 50-65 Working Man. Patriarch. Out of his depth most of the time, but confident and direct. A bit obsessive.

Mom 50-65 Suffers from "The Condition". Stays in her room. Heavily medicated. Loves her children but doesn't understand them.

Gordon 25-40 Hiding in the basement to avoid failed expectations. His wife left him for a bush pilot.

Walter 25-40 Home to fix things for the holidays, even if it requires firearms.

Stacey 25-40 Recently escaped/released from an institution. Life did work out for her.

Preparation:

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. The play is a dark satire of family life. Characters are played straight, with intensity. "Faster, Louder, Funnier." All Characters are a bit paranoid, but believe intensely in their stated positions.

SUDS - The Rocking Musical 60's Soap Opera

When: September 8, 12, 13 (all at 7-9pm).

Where:416 Centre Street, Whitby, ON (at the theatre!)

Roles:

1 female 21-35: character is sweet, personable, possibly gawky
1 female 29-47: character is sweet, optimistic, perky and can show moments of strong temper if crossed
1 female 29-47: character is a diva with charisma, thunder, has the ability to charm, but might benefit from a growl in her confident moments
1 male 25-45: character changes personalities constantly throughout the show, full range of comic characters from geek to suave ladies man to plumber

Preparation:

Preparation: Candidates have the opportunity to practice and provide their own music selection. However, there will be a pianist in the audition who can do proficient sight reading.

Hit songs from the 1960's would be ideal pieces to prepare. Karaoke may also be done with our in-house CD player (without lyric graphics).

Candidates with nothing prepared are still quite welcome. Your voice and your ability to work with our choreographer mean much more to us. The choreographer will take the group through some introductory dance moves to see general dance proficiency.

About Auditions

Whitby Courthouse Theatre ("WCT") is a non-profit group that welcomes all experience levels to our team. Whether this is your first stab at making a debut on stage, or your 100th, all are welcome to try out for our shows.

Specific notes will be provided here for what our Director is wanting to see for their show, but here's a few general tips to keep in mind.

If you can, get a look at the script ahead of time. Having a general idea of the story line and its theme will help you to decide how -you- want to interpret the character you want to audition for.
If you're asked to prepare a song as part of an audition, it helps if you pick something you know well and can memorize. Fumbling with sheets and getting lost during your audition can really throw you off balance for the rest of your effort.
Try not to bring friends/family along to "cheer" you on. If they plan to audition too thats fine, but otherwise we want to see just you.
Bring a resume of other shows you've been involved in, if any.
